Editorial policy

Facts come from primary sources wherever a primary source exists: museum collection records, copyright offices, court decisions, published policy pages, and public review profiles. Wikipedia is used for uncontested background and is cited as such, never as the sole authority for a number.

Every article carries a numbered source list with the date each source was checked. Prices and lead times are printed with the date they were collected, because both move.

A number that cannot be verified is left out. Articles say what is unknown rather than filling the gap with a plausible figure.

Errors of fact are corrected in place and the article’s update date changes. A correction that alters a conclusion, a score, or a price is noted in the article itself, not silently patched.

To report an error, write to hello@oilpaintingreproductions.org with the article and the specific claim. Reports that include a source get fixed fastest.

Every guide is re-checked at least once a year, and sooner when a studio changes a published policy, a price ladder moves, or a copyright term expires. The update date at the top of each article is the date of the last check, not the date of the first publication — both are shown.

No retailer reviews, approves or edits content before publication, and no position in a ranking is for sale. Commercial relationships are disclosed in the affiliate disclosure.

Images are either photographs and diagrams made for this site, or reproductions of works in the public domain sourced from Wikimedia Commons with the file and its license recorded. Stock photography is not used to illustrate a studio’s work, and no competitor’s photography is republished.
