Two things separate Art & See from the middle of this market, and both are unusual. The first is the ground: the About page lists "Belgian linen canvas. Professional-grade oil paints. Archival stretcher bars" as materials, and only two other stores in this survey name linen at all. The second is the preview. The shipping policy states that "Before your artwork is dispatched, you will receive a photograph of the final piece for your approval", and the refund policy calls the same step a complimentary photo preview with refinement at no cost until the painting matches what the buyer had in mind. That combination — a named premium ground and a hard approval gate — is why this is our pick of the eight, and it is a judgment rather than a calculation: on the ten measured criteria HandmadePiece has the stronger row, and we say so in its review.

What holds it there rather than higher is the paperwork after delivery, and the near-absence of an outside record. Entry is $249.95 and the ladder tops out at $1,299.95 for a 72 by 48 inch canvas. That is comfortably above the discount end of this market — overstockArt starts a Starry Night at $99, HandmadePiece at $224 — and comfortably below TOPofART's $1,117 for a single mid-sized canvas. Buying direct from a Dafen workshop is cheaper again and always will be, because there is no Western storefront, no free worldwide courier and no approval loop in that price.
